High-quality vacation pictures are the most memorable souvenirs — at least according to Flytographer, a new service that connects visitors with more than 200 local photographers in 130 cities around the world, including Istanbul, Buenos Aires, Dubai, Hong Kong and Orlando.
Travelers usually rely on selfies or strangers to capture memories of their trips, but the company founder Nicole Smith said she wanted to give them the option to have shots that go beyond the amateur and are frame-worthy keepsakes.
She and her team have vetted all the photographers, who are professionals in the field, she said, and visitors to any of the destinations where they work find them through the company’s site and have the option to book them for as little as 30 minutes and up to an entire day.
Although the photographers can suggest noteworthy venues in their city for the shoots such as in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, in the middle of a vineyard in Tuscany or at sunset at the Taj Mahal in India, they are also plugged into more unusual and insider-y spots around town. Customers receive a complete set of digital images within five days of the meeting.
Ms. Smith, 42, said she got the idea for Flytographer after a trip to Paris three years ago with her best friend. “We were disappointed both with the photos we had taken of ourselves and the ones we had asked strangers to snap, so we asked a friend living in the city to take some shots and ended up with beautiful images which captured the spirit of the trip,” she said.
