We witnessed the wedding of our beloved Danila and Mashkura in Istanbul Blue (Sultanahmet) Mosque a while ago. I don’t mean metaphorically, we were literally wedding witnesses with my dear video partner Gökhan. Danila is our Russian groom who chose to become a Muslim for his relationship, and Mashkura is our Uzbekistan bride. They contacted me and asked for help with the mosque nikah organization and shooting, and we tried to do our best. Our couple came to the wedding with their parents, there were 6 people in total. Their own families could also witness it, but they wanted us to do it, and of course we did it gladly. The wedding ceremony was held on the terrace floor allocated to us for the nikah in the Blue (Sultanahmet) Mosque, away from the visitors of the mosque and perhaps in the place with the most beautiful view.
The Blue Mosque
The Blue Mosque is an important religious building located on the historical peninsula of Istanbul and known worldwide. It was built by Architect Sedefkâr Mehmed Ağa in the early 17th century by Ahmet I, the 14th sultan of the Ottoman Empire. This structure, also called the Blue Tile Mosque, is known for its interior decorated with rich tiles. The main dome of the mosque is 23.5 meters in diameter and 43 meters high. The mosque, which has six minarets, also has a fountain and fountains in its courtyard.
I think this mosque is the best place for a muslim wedding in Istanbul. It has a section that is physically very suitable for nikahs and it is the best mosque in Turkey and perhaps in the world with its interior decorations. All employees and imams are very friendly towards our foreign guests.
Before the wedding day, we met with the family in the courtyard of the Sultanahmet Mosque and did a short group photo shoot and a couple photo session there. After the noon prayer, we went to the section reserved for us in the mosque. After the imam read his prayers, he performed the muslim wedding ceremony, the amount of mahr was determined and the imam wedding was held under our witness. Then, the mosque imam filled out and signed the certificate provided by us. Finally, we congratulated both the imam and the family and took a short group photo at the same place.
